Political Scholarships

Party-Specific College Money

Politics is ubiquitous. Political parties vie for constituents and since scholarships make for great advertisement many parties offer them. If you were thinking Democrat and Republican alone, you'd be wrong. Dems and Reps clearly comprise the majority in the party system, but there are alternative active political parties willing to advertise scholarship opportunities. Youth-centric chapters such as Young Republicans and Democrats appeal to young adults through use of technological tools Facebook and MySpace.

Politicians are known for their handshakes and promises, but if you’re a student with college money to earn, allegiance to a political party might already be a part of your life. Best advice: look regionally and locally for political money and make sure the party’s beliefs matter to you. You might be required to join to prove your mettle.

Green Money

You’ve likely heard about the green movement, but the Green Party is a growing force in the U.S. Founded in Tasmania, the party is much more active in a number of countries such as Canada, Norway and the Philippines. The party’s core tenets range from environmental responsibility to gender equity and government decentralization. Within the U.S. the Green Party appeals to a younger generation, and those otherwise disenfranchised with the status quo. Headquartered in D.C., the party retains regional and campus chapters, some of which extend their own scholarships.

Libertarian Values

Libertarian scholarships are extended to students whose political bent is best demonstrated through the party. Chief tenets include campaign cost limits; government decentralization-similar to the Greens-and a more regionally run political system.

Young Republicans

Republicans work hard to forge relationships with young adults. After all, this is the next generation of political leadership. The Young Republicans are the campus-based arm of the party and as such they comprise a remarkable population of college age politicos. Scholarships offered through various branches of the party are competitive and often require some demonstration of Republican loyalty. Republican money is put into scholarships in almost every regional party chapter

Young Democrats

Democrats will not be outdone and provide almost as many scholarship opportunities as do the Republicans. This liberal party is their arch-rival and is active not only on college campuses, but in many high schools where interest in Democratic party values is high.
